Cold Weather Crafting...

Our winter was rather warm up until a few days ago, and now we're making up for it BIG time. Tonight is going to drop down to -36 degrees Celsius with a wind chill of -51. Google tells me that's -32 / -60 Farenheit. I'm sure grateful for a warm and safe home tonight.

All the cold weather is good for my crafting Mojo, though, and I am happy to have another card to share with you. This uses a sketch I found through Google images, at a wonderful blog Ink Stains with Roni. Here is the link to the sketch - from 2009. This was a fun layout, and I was really loving these papers.

Quick & Easy Birthday

It's a bitterly cold Monday here, and my house is so quiet with no one here but me. It's actually kind of nice ;) So while everyone else is off at work and school, I did a little creating. I made this card for my stash and it conveniently fits in with Laurie's challenge over on Hiding in my Craft Room, which is to use your scraps. I had cut out the shaped layer from the Elegant Edges cartridge a few weeks ago when I was just trying some cuts out. The background is a really old piece from my scrap box. The sentiment is a Rub-on from KaiserCraft that seemed to fit the bill. I used Harmonie glitter in the butterfly cut, and then went over it with Ranger's Glossy Accents. Some twine, button brads and a little faux stitching with my white gel pen and tada, a pretty simple card is born. I'm hoping it will kick-start me into some more projects.

My first post of the New Year... a full 9 days into it. Although I haven't posted before now, I have done a little card making, and tonight I'm off to a class at my LSS. I'll post some cards from that soon, but here's one of the ones I made previously. This was the lovely freebie image I got from Di's Digi Downloads some time ago, and I coloured it in with Copic markers. The bright and cheery paper is from DCWV The Citrus Stack.

A Labour of Love

I love advent calendars of all kinds. I've seen these on blogs, and wanted to do one so much. This is KaiserCraft's 25 Drawer Treasure Chest kit. I painted it using Plaid Apple Barrel in Nutmeg Brown, then added the papers from Graphic 45's Christmas Past paper pack. I highlighted the edges with some gold paint, then used the same brown and gold paints to colour the numbers. Christmas Day has no number on it, as it would have covered up Saint Nick. Instead I used my Crop-o-dile to add a ribbon handle to that drawer.

Inside I put a variety of treats, and on certain days there are activities printed out on strips of paper. Some of them are food-related (Fondue Night, Ice Cream Sundae Bar), some are traditional events (Christmas movie night, going for a drive to look at the lights), and some are competitions with a prize for the winner (Christmas Charades, Road Hockey, Board Games). So far the kids have been pretty good sports about it, even though they're in their teens and up. They are willing to humour their poor momma for another year.

Bring On December!

It's been a while since my last post. I've been busy and stressed, and haven't been too motivated to craft or blog. The 'highlight' of my hiatus was my oldest son getting all four wisdom teeth extracted, followed immediately by him catching some sort of flu bug. He had us very worried, as we weren't sure if it was a reaction to the meds he was on for the teeth, or something else entirely. He is feeling much better now, thankfully, and I have actually been working on a project for the last few days that I will share later this week.

It's December 1st, though, and a new month deserves a new attitude. Time for a little less worrying, and a lot more baking, crafting, decorating and celebrating. This is truly my favourite time of year.

Here is the one card I did manage to make in my absence from the blog. My little niece had a birthday and this was sent out to her. The little bear image is from Di's Digi Downloads and he is layered onto a cut from the Cricut cartridge Elegant Edges. The sentiment is from My Pink Stamper, I masked off part of it. A fun, girlie card.

Good Things come in Pairs

I have a really LONG post today, and I'm going to share one new card and one old. These are for my little great-nephews who are turning 2 years old. They are identical twins with very different personalities. I shared the lion card I made for one of them here, and this is the other little fellow's bear card. I cut the bear from Create-a-Critter with my cricut, and used the cuttlebug to do all the embossing.

Falling Leaves

It's a beautiful Saturday and I'm enjoying the weekend, as I hope you are. We had a light dusting of snow overnight here and there is a chill in the air, so I am quite happy to hunker down in my craft room.

The card I made today was a little different for me, and a lot of fun to do. I heat embossed the leaf images from Tim Holtz's Falling Leaves set with Versamark and Stampendous Clear Detail embossing powder. Then I randomly sprayed the piece with Smooch Spritzes in Sunkissed, Spun Sugar and Tea Party to make the background piece. For the leaf on the top, I sprayed the same spritzes onto my craft sheet, added a little spritz of water and stamped from the craft sheet. The shape for my image layer is from Elegant Edges Cricut Cartridge (love it!) and the stamp is from My Pink Stamper's Happiest Moments.

And here is the inside, which I stamped with the smaller leaves in the Tim Holtz set (also with the smooch spritz). The sentiment is computer generated and reads "When I count my blessings, I always start with YOU. Happy Thanksgiving!":

First Post of November

November is here...and so is "Movember" which means two of my sons will be sporting little caterpillar-like patches of fuzz above their upper lips. I fully support the meaning behind it (Movember is a prostate cancer awareness movement) and it's not like I dislike moustaches, but I will be glad when my boys are done. I'm sure some day they will be able to grow nice, full 'staches if they so choose, but for now they just look like they've been the victim of a Sharpie prank. But Happy Movember to those who are/or who know someone taking the challenge on!

On to my card, which is just a quick little all-purpose card (I left the inside blank). Really it was just an excuse to play with my new Cricut cartridge. After looking for it for what seems like forever, I finally found Elegant Edges in stock at a Michaels on a recent trip into the city. On sale, even! Oh Happy Day!

My card uses papers from the Recollections Elegance pack and stamps from Kaisercraft (the chandelier) and Just Wordz (the sentiment). I hand cut the tags using a plastic one as a template. All the papers were misted with Mixed Berries Smooch Spritz (oh, I love that stuff) and I embossed the chandelier with Gelly Tins Embossing Powder.

I hope to be back with another post before the week is over. I have been working on a long neglected scrapbook, but I'm looking for a little break from it and I think another card is in order.

Oooh Witchy Woman

It's the weekend, and I've got a little gift set to share with you. The little bag is from the Wrap It Up Cricut Cartridge. The details on the witch were just too small to cut for this, so I left her quite plain. She is really cute though, and I will be using a larger version of the witch cut in the future.

I made a little 3" card to go with the gift bag using the same paper. The spider is from Doodlecharms, and I raided my son's tackle box for the fishing line to dangle him from. I cut the letter B from the Boys Will Be Boys cartridge.

A Fold of a Different Feather

I'm back today with a Get Well card. I made this a few days ago but just haven't gotten around to posting it. I've been busy trying to get things moved to the computer in my craft room. My old one went Ka-put on me a while ago and I just hadn't taken the time to put everything on my new one.

I tried out a new fold for this card, which I saw on Splitcoast Stampers. It's called the Double Z fold and I really love the look of it. For this one, I used a Stampin' Up stamp from Touch of Nature and coloured it with Copics. The ribbon is from Offray and the bow holds the card closed. I typed the sentiment on my computer.

For a Young Fisherman

Happy Friday! (Well, it's almost Friday here....) The days are just flying by so far this Autumn, and I think the snow will be falling here way too soon. The weather is becoming much more suited to crafting, though and I found some time to make a card yesterday.

I wanted to do a little different fold for a change, so I opted for a gatefold card. The main papers are long time residents of my scrap bin, so I don't have the names for them. The fishing pole and fish are cut from the Boys Will Be Boys cartridge. They were perfect for the young fellow that this card is designated for, as he is quite the avid fisherman. The little label shape is cut from the Create-A-Critter, but I cut the points off two of the sides. I made the sentiment on the computer, and I just love this font. My pictures are a little dark; I really should remember to take them earlier in the day.

Playing in Paradise Thriller

I was the lucky winner of another challenge at Scrapbooker's Paradise blog, and so I get to be a guest in this week's challenge. It is a sketch challenge, created by Allison from Stamping When I Can. I'm loving this sketch, and it just screamed out for a Halloween card to me. I used papers and stamps from Kaisercraft's 13th Hour collection. My "ribbon" is made from a piece of cheesecloth from my kitchen drawers, and I computer generated the sentiment. It seemed like the lyrics from Thriller would be a good choice for this card :) I also tried out Smooch Spritz for the first time, misting the center panel, and the sentiment. It really shimmers, I may be hooked.

Frosted Dot Goodie Box

I picked up a new book at Walmart the other day - it's The Best of PaperCrafts Magazine (link is to Amazon). It's huge and filled with projects from past issues. I really wanted to make something other than a card, so I decided this little box would fit the bill. It's actually not that small (4" wide x 5" tall x 2" deep) and holds a lot of goodies.

The image I used is a Dustin Pike freebie from ages ago and my sentiment is made using the JustWordz stamps. The blue papers are reverse sides of BoBunny's Frosted Dot and the little flower is one I crocheted myself using a pattern a kind soul had posted on Splitcoast Stampers. Thanks to Stamping_KML and here is a link to the thread where she posted it.

It would be really cute filled with homemade fudge, or cookies, or candy but I haven't been doing much...well, any... baking lately so these little Toblerones filled it up nicely.

Tonight I have a Halloween card with another adorable image from Di's Digi Downloads. This sweet little bear is a freebie and you can find him here. I used my Prismacolor pencils to colour him as I have no orange Copics. The squiggly "frames" he is on are cut from the Love You a Latte cartridge at 3 and 3 1/4 inches. I computer generated the sentiment, then stamped a frame around it. My sewing machine even saw a little action, stitching a couple of crooked lines across the top.

Happy Monday! I had a marvelous time with my parents here for their birthdays. We took them to see Red Green's Wit & Wisdom tour, and we all enjoyed it. It was pretty clean humour for the whole family.

My card today is for the great new Playing in Paradise challenge over at Scrapbooker's Paradise. You are supposed to be inspired by or use a quote or title from your favourite book. Isn't that a great idea for a challenge? My all-time favourite book (and movie, for that matter) is Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell and I used the final sentence of the novel (or rather a part of it) to create this card of encouragement.

My Sweet 17 Year Old Soccer Player

Happy Sunday! Today is my third son's birthday. Derek is 17 years old, and this is the card I made for him. We still have company, so I will keep this short, but I will be back by Monday for sure.

This is a picture of my little Derek as an infant. He was an adorable, happy and sweet little baby.

This is Derek last year in soccer. This is probably his favourite thing to do, he's always loved soccer. He couldn't play this past spring as there weren't enough kids for his age group and he was disappointed.

They just grow up way too fast, don't they?

I Was Framed, I Tells Ya...

I'm trying my hand at something new here with an altered frame. It was a lot of fun to make, although I had trouble cutting my patterned paper to fit. The frame doesn't have nice straight lines to make a template of, so it was just kind of trial and error. I started by painting the frame in Cobalt Blue with a foam brush, let it dry, then add a layer of matte Mod Podge. I laid the paper (already cut) on that, then brushed on another coat of Mod Podge. Then came the fun stuff....embellishing it. I used the Cricut Lite cartridge Lovely Floral for the 'Smile' cut, and I cut it out 4 times and layered them to make faux chipboard. The lock is from a suitcase (I think) and I tied the little heart charm to it with some jute twine. The beautiful couple in the frame are my grandparents, taken in the 60s. My Grandma passed away in 1975 and my Grandpa in 1991, shortly before my oldest son was born. This is my favourite picture of them. Flowers for my Mom

My last post was a card for my Dad's birthday, and this one is the card I made for my Mom's. It suits her to a T. Her favourite colour is green (check) and her favourite season is spring (check). I had it all made but I glued the image layer down crooked and when I peeled it up, it ripped. To make matters worse, it was an image I had been given a long time ago to practice on - only one I had. So I headed down to the new Scrapbook store in town to buy that same stamp, which was old and (of course) not in stock. I bought another stamp (also very cute) by the same company and brought it home to find it was a little bigger than my brown layer. I didn't want to redo the brown layer, and possibly tear the background paper, and I didn't want to go back to the store. It's only been open a week and I've been there 4 times ~ they know me by name *yikes*. So finally a little lightbulb came on and I had a look around Di's Digi Downloads and of course I found the perfect image (plus 4 others).
The sentiment is from a set of stamps I won from the JustWordz All About Babies Blog Hop. I can't wait to play with them some more. There are 69 stamps on the JustWordz Everyday Sentiments set that I received, words and parts of words that you piece together to make up your own phrases. Cool, huh?

Crosswords for my Dad

Hooray, it's the weekend! We've got lots to do this weekend, getting ready for fall/winter. Today I am emptying out the trailer and getting it all cleaned out so my husband can winterize it. We are getting company this week, so extra housework and menu planning is on the agenda too. My parents are coming out, and it is their birthdays (3 days apart). My son's birthday is the same day as my Mom's, so it's always fun to celebrate them all together. We are all going to see a show at the local theatre, and everyone's looking forward to it.

This is the card I made for my Dad, who is a real crossword aficionado. The striped background paper reminded me of a shirt he used to wear, and the second I saw this stamp I had to get it. I coloured it with copic markers on Copic XpressIt cardstock. The letters for DAD are cut at 3/4 inch from the George cartridge and I tried to make it look like they were in a crossword grid, too. It was still lacking a little something, so I added the rub-on present onto a fake ticket shape I made with a small circle punch. I found the little clip in my stash to finish it off.

An Old Project

I am back, with an old project I never posted. I don't know where the days have gone, but I'm afraid they've passed by without much time in my craft room. This is a password journal that I made for my son when I first got my Cinch. I've seen these on other's blogs, but I can't remember exactly where. It was 4 or 5 months ago. Unfortunately, these were the smallest wires I had and they're a little big for the size of the book. The title was my son's idea, and I used Dummies font to print it out. I cut it out with Nestabilites Labels 10, and then layered it on the black oval after putting a couple of mini brads in. This whole piece is popped up. The paper is from an old stack from Michael's and the inside pages I made up on Microsoft Word.

I don't recommend keeping any important financial or personal passwords in a book like this, but sometimes there are so many websites that it's hard to keep track. Especially if you don't reuse your passwords (also not recommended) :) I'm going to make one for my older sons when I get some smaller wires (different papers and titles).

Flowers in Paradise

I was the lucky winner of the Playing in Paradise Challenge 29 a while ago - my card is here. Besides the awesome prize coming my way (I will post pictures soon), I get to be a guest designer on this week's challenge. It was Nancy's pick this week, and she chose to have us use flowers.

I opted to do a wedding card this week, and I used only black and white for my colours. I think wedding cards are my favourite types to make, and I usually use embossing on them. This card was no exception. I used both D'vine Swirls and Swiss Dots for the white layer, and used my Scor-Pal to make a spot for my sentiment between the different embossing. These flowers are from Petaloo and I bought them a while back, thinking they'd be great for a wedding card. I'm happy to finally put them to use.

It is the first day back to school for my youngest two sons. They are in grades 10 and 12 now, so back to school just means some new jeans, t-shirts, looseleaf and pens. They know what to expect, so no nerves and no drama.

For me, though, it is kind of a big day. It's sad to see them go back, especially since for one it's his last year, but I also am kind of looking forward to having the house to myself again during the days. It amazes me how much they can eat and how much clutter they can create in one day. Of course, in about a week I'll be wishing they were back at home all day.

The card below I made using my cricut and the Create-a-Critter cartridge. I made it for my great nephew, who will be turning 9 soon, but I am not sure if it's too cutesy. I'm toying with ideas for the inside sentiment, and thought I might be able to make it a little more appropriate by adding a "cool" phrase. Any ideas?

King of the Jungle

It's the last weekend in August, and a beautiful one at that. We are going to a Wild Blueberry Festival in a nearby town. It'll be our first time attending, and I'm really looking forward to it. Every year, we say we should go and then something always comes up where we can't.

On to my card....The challenge at Cricut Cardz Challenge this week is to make a children's card using a jungle animal. How fun is that? I made this card using the lion from the Create-a-Critter cartridge. He's cut out at 2 and 1/4 inches and I cut his mane out twice and popped it up. The shaped layer is cut from Gypsy Wanderings on the Gypsy, and I hand-cut the banner below him.

My craft room is all put together again, and just in time. I really wanted to get a card made for the Playing in Paradise challenge this week. It was Merlie's turn to pick the challenge, and she asked us to use our punches. If you check out her blog, you'll see that Merlie loves her punches. I also wanted to do Laurie's weekly challenge at Hiding in my Craft Room. They run on Saturdays, and this week's was to use embossing. I had a lot of fun making this card, love the girlie stuff. The embossing is from the Polka Dots cuttlebug folder, and I used a few punches. The photo corner is a Paper Shapers punch, and the corner rounder and scallops at the bottom are from EK Success. I layered rows of the scallops for a bit of a ruffled effect.

He's a Rocketman

My craft room is in complete and utter chaos, as I decided it needed a cleaning and reorganization. It's a small room, so everything had to come out in order to move things around. I should have it finished by tomorrow, thank goodness, and then I will be able to get back to crafting. In the meantime, I have this card that I made before we went on holidays. This sweet little guy is from the Cricut Lite cartridge B is for Boy at 3 1/4 inches and the grey arrow is a decor tag from Gypsy Wanderings. Unfortunately, I forgot to write down what it was cut at, but I think I played with the width a bit. The "moon" is just a circle cut with the coluzzle and I used the computer to do the countdown and blastoff. Tim Holtz Wild Honey and Pumice Stone inked the edges of the papers and Silver Fox Smooch decorates the spacesuit. Lots of popdots to lift the spaceman, arrow, and the middle of the Blast Off sentiment.

My husband is still on holidays, so we've been keeping busy with things around the house and some day trips here and there but this morning I got the chance to make another card. This one is for the Mojo Monday sketch challenge 204, and also for the Saturday challenge at Hiding in My Craft Room. Each week is a different one, and this week's is to use your scraps. That tied in really well to the Mojo sketch, I thought. I used the Victoria cuttlebug folder on the white background, and every bit of paper (save for the card base itself) was from my scraps.

Summer is just so busy, a week will slip by and I haven't updated or gotten around to other blogs. Last week we took a trip down to Montana for some shopping and sightseeing and my husband still has one more week off. Things will settle back down to normal soon, so I will enjoy this time with my family for now.

I'm not too sure about this card, it was kind of out of my norm. I used the Love You a Latte cartridge for the newspaper/coffee, then distressed the heck out of everything. The "coffee" has glossy accents over it, then tulip puff paint for the cream. The sentiment is computer generated.

Loving Me Some MojoMonday!

I had a lot of fun playing with the MojoMonday sketch this week. I've missed a few weeks, but this sketch really appealed to me. It's a contest week too, with prizes, so go on over and give it a try. My card is fairly simple, as there was quite a lot going on with the sketch alone. Also, it will be mailed, so I opted out of ribbons and buttons, etc. I'm unsure of the brand of the dotted cardstock, but I just love it. The patterned paper is from the DCWV Crafty Stack. Farewell, July ~ we hardly knew ye. I can't believe we are halfway through the kids' summer holidays. It was a wacky July here, with cooler than normal temperatures and rain that just wouldn't quit. Here's hoping that August will be much nicer.

My card today is using another of Di's Digi Downloads. Isn't this little bunny so sweet? I mounted him on brown cardstock, then on this pink scalloped rectangle cut from the Sugar & Spice Cricut Lite cartridge. This layer is popped up. A bow, a button and some twine to finish it off.

Oh happy day! It's the weekend again, and it looks like a beautiful one at that! I have no plans but to relax in the sun a bit, do some crafting and baking, and spend some time with my guys. We've had a busy month and sometimes it's nice to just stay home and take it easy.

Today I was doing some browsing around online and came across a site for digital stamps that I somehow had managed to miss out on until now. It's Di's Digi Downloads and wow, does she have cute images. This little sweetheart was a freebie, and so fun to colour. I'm still working at the Copic thing, but I will keep practicing. I am entering this card in the Playing in Paradise Challenge #26 - to use 3 things: tags, twine and buttons. My tag came from the Lovely Floral Cricut Lite cartridge, but I used the Gypsy to make it shorter and wider. I printed and coloured the image on Copic Xpress It paper, then used the gypsy to center it properly on the Cricut mat. And these colourful buttons (and tons more) were sent to me by Merlie and her adorable little girls. Thanks girls!

A Little Christmas Cheer

A quick Christmas card this morning. This card is one I made for a couple of challenges. The first is ABC Christmas Challenge - O is for Old. The challenge was to use an image that is more than a year old, which this little reindeer certainly is. The other challenge I am entering it in is over on Hiding in my Craft Room. Laurie wants us to use something new (the Nestabilities Label 14, I just got it) and something old (the reindeer again) and then to write in our post which elements we used for the challenge (which I just did). Wonderful Weekend!

Happy Monday! Hope the weekend was good to you! Ours was delightful, as we attended a family wedding. My beautiful niece married her wonderful boyfriend in a lovely outdoors ceremony. My feet are hurting today from all the dancing I did at the reception :0) but it was so much fun!

This is the card I made for the happy couple. It's very simple, but I love how it turned out. It's done in their wedding colours. The felt border is actually in a dark purple, but it is hard to tell in the picture. I first printed out their names, then ran the top part through the Victoria cuttlebug folder. I created some lines with the ScorPal, then adhered the felt border between them. Some pearls from K & Company and I was finished.

Today is another birthday in our house. My youngest son turns 15 and since we are going to a wedding today, we celebrated last night. We went out with all 4 boys for supper. Then, because he had some birthday money to spend, we stopped at some a couple of stores. It was a short, but fun celebration, and Jeremy enjoyed himself.

This is the card I made for him. We ended up just giving him money for his birthday, which I usually don't do. I was completely at a loss for ideas though. It did give me the opportunity to use this moneybag cut (at 3 3/4 inches) from the Smiley Cards cartridge that Provocraft gave out for registering your Gypsy a while ago. I also cut the "J" from Plantin Schoolbook at 2 1/2 inches, which qualifies this for the Cricut Cardz Challenge this week, which is to use a monogram on your card. The sentiment is computer-generated in Architect font. I used Platinum Stickles on his cheeks and a fine-tipped black sharpie for the doodles. Both the moneybag and the monogram are popped up. I can't remember what the patterned paper was called, it's been in my stash a long time.

Today is my birthday...today is my 40th birthday...hmmm. How the heck did that happen? I don't know what I will do with myself today, but I'm sure it will involve some craft time at some point.

Yesterday, I made this card which is going out to my oldest niece. I haven't seen her in a little while, and I miss her a lot. My in-laws gave me some money for my birthday, and I used it to buy myself this cartridge - Love You A Latte. It's really cute and has a ton of great cuts on it.

I cut the phrase and layers at 3 inches, and the little latte cup at 2 1/2 inches. The cup cuts out with the word latte across it, but I substituted a smaller heart. Both of the hearts have glossy accents on them for a little shine. The blue dotted paper is from a pack at Walmart, and the other patterned papers are from Crate Paper's double-sided Rulers paper.

Just Another Manic Monday

It's a busy day for me today. Lots to get done; the dog has a grooming appointment, I need to renew my driver's license, grocery shopping, and getting everyone's clothes/shoes together and ready for a wedding this weekend. The way these boys grow, there is always someone who needs a new shirt or pants, shoes or something. So lots to do here. However, we started the morning off with a thunderstorm, and the dog doesn't budge from the basement until it is over. Poor girl, I know she learned it from me.

Here is a card I made for a birthday last week. The top panel is cut from Gypsy Wanderings at 2.5 inches, then again in shadow function. There really are some great layer shapes hidden on some of the cartridges. The curlicues on the top layer are stamped in versamark on white cardstock and then dusted in orange chalk.

A Quick Thursday Night Post

The weekend is almost upon us, and I wanted to post a little something before it hits. This cute little owl is from the Hoot 'n Holler cartridge. I'm afraid that I forgot what size I cut him at ... I think it was 2 3/4 inches. I wasn't happy with the eyes I cut out, so I substituted these little googly ones. The frames/labels are cut from the Lovely Floral cartridge. The white on the bigger one at 3 1/2 and the brown layer behind it at 3 1/4. The smaller label I cut at 3/4 inch, but I used the Gypsy to make a bit bigger brown one for a shadow.

Celebrate Paradise with Scraps

I had a busy week since my last post. My husband and one of our sons went on a fishing trip. Since my father went too, my mom came to visit me and the rest of the boys. We shopped, and visited, shopped, watched movies, and shopped some more. It was a lot of fun, but I didn't get any cards or scrapbooking done in the past week. So today, I sat down and did a little creating. This card is for two challenges. Laurie at Hiding in my Craft Room has Saturday challenges, and this week's was to use your scraps. All of these papers are from my scrap bin, and it felt good to use some of them up. The other one is a sketch challenge from Scrapbooker's Paradise. Click here for the Playing in Paradise Challenge #23. They have great weekly challenges on Fridays.

The sketch had me stumped for a bit, but once I got going I had a lot of fun with it. I elected not to use an image on this one because the paper had so much going on. I ran the two rectangular panels and the blue half-circle through the cuttlebug, using the Seeing Spots folder. The sentiment is stamped onto a cut from the Lovely Floral cartridge. I rounded the corners of the panels and inked all edges with VersaColor Ink in Pinecone. I really enjoyed playing along with both of these challenges and I like how this card turned out.

A Canada Layout on Independence Day

Happy Independence Day to our neighbours to the South! I hope that you enjoy a day full of celebration and patriotic pride. We celebrated our nation's birthday 3 days ago, and I participated in a Canada Day Blog Hop. You can have a look at the projects starting here at Homemade Happiness. This is my entry into the gallery for the Hop. I started with this lovely embossed leaves cardstock from DieCutsWith a View. The font is cut from Hello Kitty Font at 1 3/4" (it is the rounded & rounded shadow cuts). The leaves are cut on the gypsy in various sizes using Gypsy Wanderings. Now I just need to get some photos back and adhere that ribbon to finish it off.

I Am Back

Yesterday was Canada Day ~ lots of celebrations going on around and fun things on the go. I've been missing in action for a while though, but with good reason. My son (second oldest) turned 18 and graduated all within a span of 5 days. We've had a very wonderful but busy week of good company and good times! Here is a picture of my 18 year old graduate.

Today I am posting a card that I am entering in a new challenge. Laurie at Hiding in my Craft Room is starting a new series of Saturday Challenges and today is the very first one. It is a colour challenge, and this one is (suitably) to use red, white and blue. I decided to make a Thank You card and I used my Cricut for this one. The cuts are from the B is for Boy cartridge at 3 inches. Pop on over to visit Laurie and try her challenges out for yourself.

Christmas Card in Paradise

I have added a new site to my favourites blogroll, the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog. They have challenges on Fridays, and lots of other ideas and techniques throughout the week. This week's was to use just 3 things on your card ~ cardstock (no patterned paper), punches, and stamps. Kind of tough, and I actually think I broke the rules a tad. I added Glossy Accents to the little berries, without thinking, and couldn't get them off without tearing the branches underneath. So they stay, and we'll just envision it with regular paper dots.

Since it's Father's Day, I wanted to share this 8x8 page I made of my wonderful Dad. Words can't describe how much I love this guy, and I wish I could be with him on his special day. We will be getting together next weekend, so that will be great, anyways.

The paper I used is from K & Co's Roam stack. I used Cindy Loo cartridge for the letters and the flourish, and an EK Success scalloped border punch. The gems are from ZVA, and I used the computer to add the quote.

Just a Note

Monday's rolled around once again, and I'm back on the blogging train. It's supposed to rain here for a few days, so I may get some crafting time in then, too. Today's card is using background paper made with Tim Holtz alcohol inks and blending solution. I used Kodak photo paper for mine, but apparently not all photo papers will work. Jennifer McGuire has wonderful videos on the alcohol inks here. The doily and its shadow are cut from the Cindy Loo cartridge, and the tag is from New Arrival. The sentiment on the tag is from JustRite Stamps and I heat-embossed it with Gel-a-tins Jet Black Gelly Powder.

A Simple Cricut Card

We did end up going camping this past weekend, despite the overly cool weather. It was a really nice time, as we caught a lot of fish and visited with the family. We met up with my parents, as well as both of my sisters and their families. My sweet niece Haylee was there, and her birthday is this week, so I brought along a card for her.

I made this card using the square card feature on the Life is a Beach cartridge. I cut it at 5 1/2 inches and it turned out pretty big. I had intended to cut layers for the flower, but I couldn't figure out the sizing. I was looking at the card, thinking of scrapping it, but then I decided the cut could stand on its own. After adding the embellishments, I was quite happy with how it turned out. I am entering this in the Cricut Cardz Challenge this week.

The sentiment is heat embossed with Extra Foam Latte scented embossing powder by Gelatins. YUMMY! The inside, computer generated using Signet Roundhand and Andes fonts.

The Shower Card

Last weekend, I went to my niece's bridal shower. Since the event was near my parents' home, I stayed with them. I think that this is the first time I have stayed alone at their house since I got married. Usually my husband or at least some of the kids are with me, and if not them, a sibling or two. But this time it was just the three of us, and it was GLORIOUS. I am the youngest of 5, and my parents still treat me as the baby. Mom and I went to a different niece's jewellery party plus the shower and we got in lots of visiting together, and my sweet dad made me my favourite breakfast. They are such loving parents, I almost had to be dragged back here. Almost.....but these guys treat me pretty great, too.

This is the card I made for the shower. Her colours are black, white and purple, but I think that her purple is deeper. Her shower was lovely, and I can't wait for the wedding in July.

I cut the umbrella from Create-a-Critter. The purple is from DCWV's Shimmer Stack. The background is embossed with Cuttlebug's Victorian folder and the computer-generated sentiment is layered on the Scalloped Oval Nestability.

Well, the weekend is upon us once again. We were hoping to take out our camper for the first time this year, although the weather sure doesn't look too promising. We have a frost warning here for tonight, and right now the wind is gusting and the rain is falling.

So, with such cool temperatures, my mind is on Christmas, right? No, not really, but I do have a gift card holder to share. This is for the ABC Christmas Challenge. The letter K was for kids, we were supposed to make either a kid's card or a gift card holder using kraft cardstock. I used this video by Jennifer McGuire to make the holder. I just hand cut the slot for the gift card, using a rounded coaster as a template. It's a simple little card, but I think it would work well for a child or adult.

A Couple of Challenge Cards

Well, it's a rainy Wednesday here, but I sure don't mind. My garden needed watering, and I didn't get out there today to do it. Lucky for me, as I got to do a little crafting instead. I actually have 2 cards to share, which is very unusual for me.

The first card is a wedding card that I made for the MojoMonday sketch this week. This was a very basic, very literal take on the sketch. The stamp is one I've had for ages, heat embossed with Gelatins Gelly Glitter. The paper is both sides of the same Kaiser paper called To Have and To Hold.

A Ballet Boardbook

A month ago, my husband Glenn and I were invited to my great-niece's first dance recital. She is just 3 years old, and so sweet, we could't miss her big debut. I wanted to make her a little something to thank her for having us there, so I made her this little board book. I used the Cinch to bind it.

The program, shrunk down and printed out.

All the photographs inside are laminated, which I'm sure is a no-no archival-wise. It's for a little girl, though and I wanted it to stand up to lots of flipping and touching.

This is my favourite page. Both the picture of her and the paper doll are adhered by Velcro, so she can take them off and play with them ~ make them dance.

I used 7 coasters to make this little book, so there are 14 pages. I think that she's going to love it, and I really had fun making it. I am going to see her mommy at a bridal shower this weekend, so I'll get to give it to her then.

Kitschy Kitschy Coo

It is so beautiful outside, and the local nurseries are booming. We got our pond up and running and the garden goes in tomorrow (I'm hoping a couple of my boys will want to give me a hand with that). There's still a risk of frost tonight, but I'm hopeful that will be it for this spring. It certainly is a busy and beautiful time of year.

I made this card using the Splitcoast Stampers Wednesday Sketch Challenge. This week is challenge 333, and it has been quite a while since I did one. I had October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker 8x8 pad in front of me when I looked at the sketch, and I thought the little squares from it would be perfect for the three small elements. The patterned papers are all from that pad, which I really love. The papers are all reminiscent of 50's/60's fabrics and patterns. The scalloped rectangle is cut out from the Sugar and Spice cartridge and the stamps are from Hero Arts Thoughtful Messages (sentiment) and Autumn Leaves Flower Stamps (flower).

This week's challenge at Cricut Cardz Challenge was to make a card for a new baby using any cartridge. It just so happened that I was in need of a baby girl card, and also that I got two new cartridges for Mother's Day.....Sugar & Spice and B is for Boy. Perfect timing all around.

I thought this little bear was just adorable on the S&S cartridge, and I also used the "GIRL" from the same one. The scalloped oval is from Gypsy Font, and the little tag from Plantin Schoolbook. I used center point on the Cricut to cut the tag around the word "Baby", which was computer-generated with TypoUprightBT font.

The ribbon on this card is some I found at the local dollar store. I just love it, and want to go get some more. It is a satin ribbon, but the dots are velvet. They had a bunch of colours to choose from, too.

Born to Be Wild

What a beautiful, yet blustery weekend we had. Finally we're having some warm temperatures but they have come along with strong winds. After the exceptionally long winter we had, though, you will not find me complaining about this weather at all.

I've had a bit of trouble getting motivated to create, but I finally made this card which will be mailed out tomorrow to my brother. I used Crate Paper's School Spirit paper on this one, and ran the rust coloured cardstock through the Moroccan screen cuttlebug folder. The embossing resembles the patterned paper. I also used the Scor-Pal to make some lines across the bottom, as well. The stamps are two that hadn't seen ink yet. I got the motorcycle in a grab bag from Las Vegas stamps quite a long time ago, and the sentiment is from JustRite Stamps. I'm quite happy with how this one turned out.

Happy Monday! It is election day here in Canada, and a bright and sunny one at that. It is my oldest son's first chance to vote in a federal election. He's pretty happy about it, and we are heading off to cast our votes after lunch. I have a card to share that I made him for his birthday last Tuesday. It's a very simple one, but I find that usually works best for me for masculine cards. I scored the brown PTI over half of the way up, then embossed it up to the line with the Moroccan Screen cuttlebug folder. The tag is cut from the Mini Monograms cricut cartridge.

At the Very Last Minute....

Okay, it's a Mother's Day Card so it's not technically "last minute", but it is if I want to enter it into the Cricut Cardz Challenge (which I do). I had this one planned out on the Gypsy, but didn't cut it out and assemble it until this afternoon. Today is my oldest son's twentieth birthday...YIKES! I wanted to get everything I needed to do for him done before I finished off this one. You can see the Stickles are still wet when I took the picture. Yup, very last minute....
All the cuts are from the Lovely Floral cartridge, and the frame and flower were cut at 4 inches. I welded a flower onto the frame first, then cut and layered it in the green/pink. I forgot to make note of what size I cut the tag at, but I just measured my stamp and sized it to a little bigger.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! Ours was great ~ beautiful weather, awesome company. Now this week my boys are on holidays from school, although the two oldest work.

I have a quick post for this morning, hopefully followed by a few more this week. This card is for the ABC Christmas Challenge. It's the letter H, for the hotspot technique. I haven't done this technique before, and I'm not sure of my end result. I know that it is usually done with circles but I didn't have the right sizes, so my Spellbinder Tags Five had to substitute. The designer paper is flocked, and such a pretty red. Love it!

Mmmmm....Cupcakes!

It's hard to believe we're already mid-way through April, and Easter is closing in fast. This project is for this week's Cricut Cardz Challenge, which was to make an Easter cupcake holder or wrapper. So last night I made this little holder from Sweet Treats, and a little Easter card to match. First, however, I had to bake some cupcakes. I used this recipe from Bakerella, and they turned out really nice. If you've never been to her site, you really should go. The link is also on my sidebar. The cupcakes themselves weren't overly sweet, which we liked, but they were quite moist and yummy! My boys really liked this challenge...

The cupcake holder was cut at 7", and that was a little big for my cupcakes. I had to put a false bottom in to have the icing peek out the top. The scallops were also a cut on Sweet Treats, and I ran a paper strip around the top to finish it. All other cuts are from Create-a-Critter, but I forgot to note the sizes.

Oh Baby Blue

This is my card for the MojoMonday challenge this week, Sketch186. I used some old paper from a stack I bought at Michael's so I don't have a company name. The ribbon I'm not sure of either, but it was a white twill that I coloured with my copic marker B21. I crocheted the flower embellishment using a pattern that stamping_KML posted over on Splitcoast Stampers. I paired it with some buttons and I think it turned out so cute!

Doing the Bunny Hop

I made this little basket for the Cricut Cardz Challenge's Easter Bunny Blog Hop. There were some amazing projects along the blog hop, and lots of inspiration. My treat basket is pretty simple, cut from TBBM at 6 inches. The little bunny is from Doodlecharms, cut at 2 inches. I used a little pearl from Prima for her nose, and stitched her little whiskers in.

The tag is made from MiniMonograms, and the outer tag is cut at 2.25 inches. The inner two are both cut at 2 inches. The stamp I used is from My Pink Stamper's Happiest Moments set. Oh, and those little paper curls are something I saw done on an internet video (can't remember where). The look pretty cute in baskets/bags.

Cricut Children's Card

My favourite Cricut cartridge is definitely still Create-A-Critter, and I am especially drawn to it when I need to make a children's card. Today was my great-niece's 3rd birthday party and this is the card I came up with for her. I cut the sheep out at 3 1/2 inches and embossed her "wool" with the cuttlebug. I then added some flocking to the raised pieces. The balloon and party hat are cut from the same cartridge. Cindy Loo for the number 3, and that was it for the Cricut. I think it turned out pretty cute, but it was nothing compared to the little birthday girl. She was just adorable, and I'm sure glad we got to attend her big party!

Yay, Friday! Another week closer to warm weather! Monday is the first day of spring, but it snowed here again today. I took this picture just a couple of days ago of my husband clearing the driveway. It's hard to believe that soon this snow should all be gone. It's beautiful, but I am ready for spring. Bring on the sunshine!

My card today is made using the Mojo Monday sketch #182. It's a fairly simple layout, and I really enjoyed making this one. The papers are from K & Co McKenna pack, and I cut two of the flowers out, layered them, and used glossy accents on the top.

Long time, no post.

It has been a long time since my last post. My husband and I went on a holiday that was a long time in coming, and then we took another little mini-vacation with our boys. They were both really wonderful, and I am feeling refreshed and ready to craft.

This card is for the ABC Christmas Challenge. This is the "e" challenge, which required embossing, either heat or dry, and 3 different embellishments. I am getting this in just in the nick of time, as this is the last day to submit it. I used My Mind's Eye I Believe collection. The embossing done is on the deer image, and I used Gelly Powder Extra Foam Latte scent, so it smells really delicious. My three embellishments are the ribbon, brads, and gemstones. My bow looks really wonky in the picture, but it's not that bad in real life, I promise.

A Christmas Challenge

I adore the Dustin Pike images, so it wasn't a chore at all to use one. I used copics to colour it, and I'm trying hard to get the hang of using them. This oh-so-girlie card is using the last Mojo Monday sketch (#173). It might be the most feminine card I have ever made. I used DCWV The Sweet Stack along with the Bazzill cardstock. The stamp is a High Hopes one that I got a long time ago and I coloured it with copics. She has Cotton Candy Stickles on her nails and tutu. I have a special little girl in mind for this card.

A Masculine Card for a Monday

Happy Monday! We had a very snowy weekend here, and spent most of it holed up in the house. Sometimes it seems like nature needs to slow everyone down just a bit, and it was actually a nice relaxing couple of days. I even got a little card making and scrapbooking done.

The Inkadinkado set (The Great Outdoors) had been begging me to take it home for a while now, and I finally caved in. I made this card for my camping-loving nephew using this scene from that set, and a sentiment from Papertrey Ink Enjoy the Ride set. Fairly self-explanatory, this card, except maybe the banner, which is cut on my Cricut from the New Arrival cartridge. It is the shift key on the airplane. The narrow strip is embossed with the Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes folder.

A New Year!

Welcome 2011! A new year and hopefully it is one that finds me a little better at posting than the last. My first post of the year is a card for Mojo Monday sketch 172. What an interesting sketch, too. It took me a little while to come up with something, but I really enjoyed the layout. I used October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker paper for the most part. The little inner flower is a sticker from the same collection, and I layered it up some. I applied ink to my cuttlebug folder to make the background layer and inked up only a portion of the "make a wish" from the TPC studio Birthday Party stamp. The "brads" are faux, using my crop-a-dile and Glossy Accents, which I also applied to the flower. A fun sketch that proved to be a bit of a challenge, too, which is always a good thing.

Twin Airplane Cards

It's been a long while since I last posted. My youngest son had surgery recently and between the actual surgery, time in the hospital, and preparations to go I just haven't done much crafting. I wasn't really in a creative frame of mind either. Now we are back home and he is recovering nicely, so I hope to get back to somewhat more regular posting.

The cards I have today were for my little great nephews. They are identical twins and they just had their first birthday party on Saturday. I made them the same cards, and just reversed the main colours. I used New Arrival cricut cartridge to make the airplanes. The clouds are from New Arrival and Hello Kitty Greetings, and the number 1 from Plantin Schoolbook. The background paper is embossed with Polka Dots cuttlebug folder. I really enjoyed making these cards and it felt good to break out of my slump.

Busy Days Ahead

It's going to be a beautiful weekend here, and a busy one too. Our anniversary is on Sunday, and we are also going to an 80th birthday party that day for Glenn's uncle. It is also Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. Lots of fun to be sure!

This is the card I made for Glenn's uncle using My Mind's Eye L'il Robots line. I saw this Stampendous set done using paper piecing on Stampin' and Scrappin'. Hers are just adorable! I loved the look and wanted to try it as well, so I used this occasion to give it a whirl. It's tough to tell here, but if you have a keen eye, you might spot that I finally got some COPICS! I don't have a whole lot, but enough to keep me busy colouring for a while. I added another strip of the green paper vertically, and embellished it with white mini brads.

Cricut Friday

I haven't posted since last week's Cricut card, but hopefully I will get back on track now. The card I have today is from the Cricut Lite Wildlife cartridge. I bought this one because I thought it would be good for all the men in my family. Lots of great animal cuts, but I am not crazy about the top layers on some. This cut was one where I liked the silhouette look better than the layered look. At my husband's suggestion, I cut a "moon" with my circle coluzzle, and inked the edges with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo ink. The tag is from Plantin Schoolbook and the sentiment is computer generated. The inside reads "Go Ahead...Howl at the Moon" in the same colour/font.

Tomorrow is World Card Making Day! I am actually not going to be around to get in on the various challenges, but I am hoping to catch up on some of them on Sunday. This year, Derek discovered the joy of paintball, so I cut the water spurt off of this Dustin Pike image and turned it into a paintball gun instead.

My Dad's Birthday

Today is my Dad's 73rd birthday. He is a wonderful father and I wish I could see him every day. Dad still works, and he's always up for an adventure. He's very funny, and so so so smart. When I was browsing my local store, this paper jumped out at me. I knew I had to buy it for Dad's card, not because he loves fishing (he does), but for one word on the entire sheet. You see, my Dad is the king of nicknames, and I was the lucky little girl who would get called from the schoolyard with a hearty "Hey, Troll!" When I was younger, I was mortified, but now I embrace the name. I sign his cards with Love from Trollie. Of course, that is the ONLY one of the 3 nicknames he gave me that I will ever admit to. The others still mortify me. :)

Cricut Friday - Baby Boy

The weekend is upon us once again, and it seems to bring the cold weather with it here. Temperatures have dipped below freezing. These are perfect days to stay in the house and do some crafting. I have been neglecting my scrapbooks, so I think that I will try to get some pages done on those. The card I have today is made using the New Arrival cartridge. I cut this little train at 2 inches. This is my favourite cut on the cartridge, and I have so many ideas for using it. I embossed using the Swiss Dots folder and the cuttlebug, then used the Scor-pal to make the "train tracks". The train is popped up for a simple card with lots of dimension.

The card I am sharing today is a very busy, very bright one. The sketch is for MojoMonday, and there is kind of a lot going on. I used Collage Press Joyride papers for this non-traditional Christmas Card. I used various punches and decorative scissors to make the edges for the strips of paper. The image and sentiment are both from Inkadinkado, and I heat embossed them with Jet Black Gelly Glitter. This ribbon is from May Arts and it is just beautiful to work with. I only bought 1 yard from my LSS, so I will have to go back for some more.

The inside sentiment is computer-generated.

Breaking Out The Crimper...

Happy Monday! Today I have a Christmas card that I made using the crimped diamond technique found on Splitcoast Stampers. You fold your paper and use your crimper (you know, that thing way in the bottom of the drawer) to create the design. I thought that I would give it a try with some foil paper. The image is heat embossed, then coloured with prismacolor pencils and gamsol. Not too much else to tell about this one, but it is a fun technique that you might want to try.

Here's a picture of the foil paper fresh from the crimper. You flatten it out when you adhere it to the layer below, but this is just to show how the pattern forms. Nifty trick, hey?

Yay, it's Friday once again. I'm hoping for a nice weekend here, but it is not looking too likely. The weatherman is calling for rain and low temperatures. Today I have a card that I will keep in my stash for a quick card. It would work well for kids, I think, and some adults too. This card fits my self-imposed Cricut challenge, which is to use my Cricut every Friday. I missed the last one, ooops. I am also entering it in the Cuttlebug Challenge here, which is to make a birthday card with 2 layers using the cuttlebug. I used the Swiss Dots folder on the party favor, and on the sentiment. This is a quick simple card, dressed up a wee bit with the turquoise ricrac and silver stickles.

One Happy Camper!

Hello again! Today I am sharing a card made using a digital image from the amazingly talented Dustin Pike. I purchased a couple of packs of his images at his store and have been enjoying using them. His prices are really reasonable, too. I coloured this image with Prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits. The background was done with chalks. I highlighted Dudley's scales with Diamond Stickles, and used for the marshmallow. After it had dried (the paint) I used my heat gun to puff it up, then just added a little colour. The campfire is a cuttlebug die, and the stamp is a portion of a sentiment from Michael's dollar bin. I used quite a simple layout for this card to focus on the image, and give it a masculine feel. Oh yes, and I used my scor-pal to score the edges of the image square.

This is the inside of the card. I thought that this silly little sentiment suited my card. It is computer generated.

A New Challenge

How fun! I found a new challenge site, new to me anyways. It is Cuttlebug Challenge Blogspot, and it is a really great site. It isn't only challenges, but lots of great ideas, tips and tutorials. I have just begun exploring the site, but I can tell it's going to be one of my favourites. You can now find them on my blogroll to the right. The challenge I am doing is inspired by MyPinkStamper, another one on my blogroll. You had to use pink as the main colour, your cuttlebug (of course), and a sentiment on the front. For this card I used the Snowflake folder and the Swiss Dots folder. I sanded down the snowflakes on the Coredinations cardstock. The stamps are from Hampton Art Stamps & Verve Fairy Tales. I only inked up the Believe from a longer sentiment and then repeated it across the strip using the Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line it up. The snowflake is embossed with Ranger Bridal embossing powder. A thin Offray ribbon, my Uniball Signo White gel pen and some black brads to finish. Merry Pink Christmas!

Here I Am...

I haven't posted for just about a week. I have, however, been creating. This morning I used the Mojo Monday sketch to create this wedding card. I had bought these papers with the intention of using them for a wedding last weekend, and just couldn't get inspired. I had to go with a *gasp* store-bought. When I saw the Mojo Monday sketch, I knew it would work perfectly with my supplies. So this card is for another very important wedding in our family that is coming up this fall. Nothing too much to explain here, I used Cricut SweetTreats to cut the tags, and Nesties and coluzzle to cut the circles. The sentiment and flourished circle are from Verve Fairy Tales and they are embossed using Stampendous PearLustre Hematite and Ranger Bridal tinsel embossing powders. The names are computer generated and then I embossed a flourish from the same Verve set in the Bridal powder. It has a real shimmer to it IRL!

Cricut Christmas

Today is the last day of summer vacation for my boys. They are not too thrilled to be done with their holidays, but I'm sure they'll be fine once they are back in the swing of things. I will miss them being around, but I look forward to having a bit more alone time too. I hope that I will get lots of crafting done now too.

The 5" card I have today is one that I did for a challenge over on Robyn's blog (MyPinkStamper). She asked us to make a winter project using our cricuts. I chose to use both the Create-A-Critter and Doodlecharms cartridges. The reindeer and sentiment were cut from CAC at 3" and 1" respectively. The trees were cut using the border feature on Doodlecharms at 3". It actually cuts out 4 trees, but my paper piece wasn't quite big enough so I just used the 3. I then ran them through the cuttlebug using the Divine Swirl folder and inked the edges. I used Xmas Red Stickles on the nose and on the little star. His scarf is embellished with Ruby Red Liquid Pearls. Oh yes, and the deer, star and sentiment are all up on popdots.

MojoMonday 254 ~ Believe in your Dreams

Happy Monday everyone! We had a great weekend here, with a wedding to attend and some fabulous company. Merlie and her family came for the wedding and we enjoyed their visit, as always.

I have devoted my morning to crafting, so I was able to complete this card for the MojoMonday sketch and one for another challenge as well. I will be posting that tomorrow. I used the Wild Card cartridge on my Cricut to make both the card shape and the envelope & liner. They were all cut at 4 1/2 inches on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. The patterned paper is from K & Company and the beautiful flower is from Prima. I used Tim Holtz Vintage Photo to distress the edges and to stamp the Verve sentiment as well. I've never done a round card before and I am just loving the unique look of it.

Sweet Cricut Flowers for a Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Today is my Cricut challenge, and this week I made something other than a card. Hooray! I had wanted to make the Tall Ball bag on Plantin Schoolbook, but I ripped one of the handles while taking it off the mat. Out of necessity (I didn't want to waste this cute design paper), I cut the handles off and created this vase. I love this cut, what a hidden gem on that cartridge. I cut it out at 11 inches using a 12 x 12 piece of paper. It was adhered together using red sticky strip. I cut out the bees from some of the scraps and popped them up, and the flower was also from Plantin Schoolbook, cut in italic mode.

These are the supplies I used once the vase part was completed. All the floral supplies were from Walmart, easy to find and relatively inexpensive. I put some candies in to weight the vase down, then added the floral foam that I had cut down to the proper size. The flowers were cut from the same cartridge, in varying sizes from about 2 3/4 in to 4 in. Some were run through the cuttlebug, and all were inked with Tim Holtz Wild Honey ink. The lollipops went through the holes in the middle, and then were attached to the floral stem by wire. I wrapped floral tape around the works and popped it in the foam. After all 4 were in, I added some more candies to the base to fill the vase. This was so much fun to make!

Card for a Baby Girl

Using this week's MojoMonday sketch, I created this baby girl card. I'm quite happy with how this one turned out. I just picked up these button stamps from Hero Arts at my LSS, and I am loving them. Just too cute, aren't they? I haven't done the inside to this card yet, but I am quite certain the sentiment will have something to do with "cute as a button".

I had no suitable rub-ons or stamps, so I had to use my computer to generate a sentiment. My tag was made on the Cricut using Mini Monograms, and I used the center point button (see below) to cut the circle out around my sentiment. It sure makes it easy to center your pieces.

I coloured in the flowers with the Sakura gel pen (pink) for a very subtle sparkle. The mini-scallop punch is from EK Success and I think it's just darling. It's hard to see in the picture, but I tiered the punch 3 times for the horizontal border. The ribbon is from Offray, just a 1/4 inch satin that I pleated and glued. It was a fun card to make and just perfect for my teenage niece with a birthday coming up!

More Cricut Fun...

Last week I challenged myself to use my Cricut to create something for Friday's posts. I almost didn't make it on only the second week, but I pushed myself to stay up and get something done. This card is made with both the Create-a-Critter cartridge and MiniMonograms. I cut out the dinosaur at 3" from CAC and the little tag at 2" from MM. It was getting late, so of course I forgot to use my embossing buddy before stamping the sentiment. It left little specks, but I decided to go with it and just made random marks with my versamark pen and heat embossed those as well. Sometimes you just have to go with it rather than fight it, lol. The papers are from provocraft and came with my Cricut. It's about time they got used. Stickles in Black Diamond and Grape finished it off.

A quick post with my entry to Splitcoast sketch challenge 294. The digital image that I used on this one is from Pink Petticoat Boutique. Love her little bellybutton sticking out, so sweet. They have such cute items at their store, it's really worth a look. I coloured this with Prismacolor pencils and gamsol, and used Frosted Lace stickles on the flower part. The patterned papers are from DCWV The Sweet Stack. The sentiment is computer generated (Amazone BT is the font).

The image stamp is from Inkadinkado, while the "for you" is from a My Sentiments Exactly set. A Martha Stewart punch and Offray ribbon finished it off.

Cricut Friday

I have decided to challenge myself to make something with my Cricut to post each Friday. I find that I go through spurts of using it a lot, and then it will sit dormant again for a while. For today's card I used the Doodlecharms cartridge, which I find is one of the most versatile cartridges. The snowglobe, snowman, and some of the snowflakes are made with it. The double-sided patterned paper has been in my stash for quite a while. I didn't have a Christmas stamp that fit in the bookplate I wanted to use, so I wrote out the word JOY with a gel pen. Oh, how I love Christmas, and this card just makes me feel merry! (In no way, however, do I want summer to be over yet.)

My First Mojo Monday (on a Tuesday)

I wanted to do a MojoMonday sketch for a while now. They have wonderful sketches and lots of people play along. This week is no exception, and I actually got it done yesterday (Monday).

My card uses the Basic Grey Lemonade 6x6 pad, along with stamps from Verve. The little bit of colouring I did was just using Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick distressed ink. I pulled out the nestabilities and cuttlebug folders, as well as the heat embossing gun for this one. I really enjoyed doing this sketch, and would love to make some more cards with it.

Frogs, Frogs, Frogs!!!

When I saw this paper, I just had to buy it. Not for myself, although I am a big lover of all things froggy, but for my adorable little great nephew. He is a fantastic fellow who has a lot of enthusiasm for, well, everything. One of the things he loves best is catching little critters of all types, and when he comes to visit me he scours the acreage for little frogs. When he was last here he was a wee bit disappointed as the frogs weren't very plentiful yet. His birthday isn't for a little while, but this card was playing in my mind. The 10 is cut from the cricut in triplicate, then layered for height, and the frog and star are both popped up. The sentiments are computer-generated.

Yikes, I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted! We've been on holidays - away from the internet for some of the time and just spending quality family time for the rest. We did go away camping for a few days, and I came home to these beautiful lilies blooming. So gorgeous!

Yesterday I finally got down to my craft room to make this card, and I had originally intended it for a wedding that's coming up. One of my favourite people just got engaged though, and I'm thinking now that it would be a great card to congratulate her and her new fiance. So I have left the inside blank for now, and will finish it up when I make up my mind over who the recipients will be.

I also wanted to share this little accordian-folder card holder. The tutorial is over on Splitcoast, and you really should give it a try. It was super quick and easy. I expected it to be a little harder than it was, to be honest. I used some thick, cheap paper I had bought at Walmart in anticipation of having some screwups on my first attempt. It turned out really well, though, and I'm sure that I will be making a few more. I just used the computer to make the labels.

Here is a little card I made for another of my lovely niece's birthdays. It was inspired by this card of Nancy's from a few months ago. The design paper is from a K&Company pack and it is double-sided. The butterflies are cut out in blackout mode from the cricut cartridge Indie Arts, and adhered down the body only with glue dots.
